BIMAS – Biennial of Macedonian Contemporary Architecture

BIMAS is a leading manifestation organized by the Association of Architects of Macedonia (AAM), which for decades has represented the contemporary architectural scene in the country. It is held every two years in the form of a fifteen-day program filled with exhibitions, lectures, panels, and cultural events.

As the most significant architectural event in Macedonia, BIMAS brings together architects, students, and architecture enthusiasts from the country and abroad. Its central element is the biennial exhibition – a showcase of the most important realized projects and ideas from the past two years, presented in collaboration with museum institutions across the country.

BIMAS also has a competitive character, awarding the Grand Prix for the most successfully realized architectural work, along with other recognitions in multiple categories.

As part of the program, BISTA – the Biennial of Architecture Students – is also held, featuring participation from all faculties of architecture in Macedonia. The event is enriched with accompanying activities: competitions, professional panels, thematic film screenings, round tables, promotions, and debates.

Founded in 1981, just one year after the first Venice Architecture Biennale, BIMAS remains a key event for the advancement and promotion of Macedonian architecture.
